Reservations for 2024 Summer Season

Reservations for the summer season (May 17th – September 15th, 2024) are now open.

8X Schedule from May 17th – September 15:

Reservation information for Route 8X from September 16th and Route 10 Moraine Lake Express fall service will be available in September.

There are two options available for summer reservations:

Reservable Super Pass

The Reservable Super Pass offers unlimited travel on all Roam Transit services and includes a round-trip on Parks Canada’s Lake Connector Shuttle from Lake Louise Lakeshore to Moraine Lake during the Shuttle’s operating hours (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.). When secured in advance through the “Reservations” button, the Super Pass also secures a round-trip reservation for the 8X Banff – Lake Louise Express service.

Please note that reservations are subject to availability, especially during the busy summer season (May-Oct). It’s strongly advised to purchase your pass early to secure your spot, as availability may be limited. Please be aware that one-way Reservable Super Pass tickets are not available; round-trip bookings are required. Additionally, the pass allows for a return booking on the same day only. For additional days, there will be an extra charge of $25.

Parks Canada Lake Connector

The Parks Canada Lake Connector Shuttle operates on a first-come, first-served basis and departs from Lake Louise Lakeshore. If you intend to visit both lakes within a single day, it’s essential to plan your itinerary accordingly. Ensure you allocate sufficient time to travel to Moraine Lake using the Connector Shuttle and to catch the last returning shuttle from Moraine Lake to Lake Louise Lakeshore. To allow ample time for exploring Moraine Lake, it’s recommended to board an 8X service departing from Banff no later than 4:00 p.m. If you’re unable to acquire a Reservable Super Pass, we suggest visiting the Parks Canada Reservations page.View here. Please note that the Parks Canada Shuttle departs from the Park & Ride at Lake Louise Ski Resort, not Banff, and we do not have a service to this destination.

Where exactly is the 8X bus stop at The Banff High School Transit Hub?

The Banff High School is situated on the 300 block of Banff Avenue. At the Transit Hub, multiple bus stops are available. The 8X stop is closer to the Moose St end of the block, across from The Ptarmigan Hotel. Look for the “8X Lake Louise” sign. Waiting at the wrong bus stop will cause you to miss your reserved departure.

How do I use my Reservable Super Pass on the 8X Banff-Lake Louise service?

If you have a reservation, make sure to arrive at your departure location at least 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Ensure you have your ticket(s) printed or downloaded beforehand. Keep in mind that we need to see each riders ticket, so if you booked for multiple people you will need to have all tickets printed or downloaded. When boarding, present your Reservable Super Pass with the QR code to the Roam bus driver or ambassador.

If you are not there within the required timeframe you will be considered a “no-show” and your reservation will be canceled, you will then be required to wait in the “walk-up” line until space becomes available on a future departure. Please note, that you can still use the same ticket on a later service at no additional cost.

How do I use my Reservable Super Pass ticket to access Moraine Lake?

Your Reservable Super Pass ticket grants access to the Parks Canada Lake Connector Shuttle from Lake Louise Lakeshore to Moraine Lake (return). Upon arrival at the Lake Louise Lakeshore, proceed directly to the Lake Connector Shuttle boarding area and present your Reservable Super Pass ticket to a Parks Canada representative or shuttle driver. The shuttles operate every 30 minutes and do not require reservations. Look for the signage indicating where to wait for the shuttle. We recommend visiting Moraine Lake before Lake Louise to ensure you have sufficient time to use the Connector Shuttle before the service ends each day. Please note that to visit Moraine Lake, you must catch an 8X departure from Banff by 4:00 p.m. The last Connector Shuttle leaves Lake Louise Lakeshore at 6:00 p.m., and the last departure from Moraine Lake is at 7:00 p.m. Please keep in mind that lines can be long towards the end of service – we recommend planning to catch a shuttle at least 30 minutes before the last departure.

How do I use my Reservable Super Pass on other Roam Transit Services?

Your Reservable Super Pass is valid for all Roam Transit services (routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9) as a walk-up passenger on the selected travel date. Simply present your Super Pass ticket to the driver when boarding any of these routes. Canmore Local routes 5C, 5T and 12 are always free, so you do not need to present your ticket to ride these services.

Can I travel from Canmore to Lake Louise with my Reservable Super Pass?

Yes, your Reservable Super Pass grants unlimited access to all Roam Transit services for the day. You can utilize the Route 3 – Canmore/Banff Regional service (as a walk-up) to reach the Banff High School Transit Hub. From there, transfer to the Route 8X – Banff/Lake Louise Express using your pre-scheduled reservation, and proceed to the Lake Louise Lakeshore. Remember, you must be at the 8X bus stop at The Banff High School Transit Hub no later than 20 minutes before your reservation, so please plan your journey accordingly.

Can I use the 8X Banff-Lake Louise service if I do not have a reservation?

If you do not have a reservation, you are considered a walk-up passenger. Plan to arrive well ahead of the departure time at the 8X Lake Louise bus stop at the Banff High School Transit Hub and join the “non-reservation” line. 40% of seats on each departure are allocated for walk-up riders without reservations, filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Unfortunately, wait times can be long. If you have a non-reservable ticket, your entire group must be prepared to wait in line for 1-3 departures of the 8X service before seats become available. Please note that you cannot join the walk-up line until your entire group is present.

Why can’t I make a reservation between Lake Louise Village and Lake Louise Lakeshore?

During the summer months (May-Oct), Roam Transit does not operate services between Lake Louise Village and Lake Louise Lakeshore (or reverse). Reservations are exclusively available for travel between Banff and Lake Louise. Additionally, boarding the 8X service as a walk-on passenger for travel between The Village and Lakeshore is not permitted.

Can I access Moraine Lake with a one-way reservation?

No, only Reservable Super Pass tickets provide access to the Parks Canada Lake Connector Shuttle to Moraine Lake.

Can I purchase a walk-up Super Pass ticket on the day of travel?

No, Super Pass tickets cannot be purchased in person; they must be reserved in advance online. Reservations can be made online up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time, subject to availability. Super Pass tickets are not available for purchase on the bus, at the Customer Service Desk at The Banff Visitors Centre, via Token Transit, or from Ticket Vending Machines.

Can I access Moraine Lake with Roam Transit if I don’t have a Reservable Super Pass?

No, access to Moraine Lake via Roam Transit is exclusive to the Reservable Super Pass, which includes access to the Parks Canada Lake Connector Shuttle. None of the other Roam Transit fare options grant access to the Shuttle for Moraine Lake. However, during a three-week period in the fall (September/October), we offer a direct service from Banff to Moraine Lake. More details about this service will be provided in early September.

Please be aware, all other Roam Transit fare options, such as purchasing tickets via Token Transit, paying with exact cash fare on the bus, visiting our Customer Service Desk at 224 Banff Ave, or using the ticket vending machine at the Banff High School Transit Hub, do not include access to the Moraine Lake Connector Shuttle. These tickets are open and cannot be reserved. Without a reservation, you will need to join the “walk-up” line. Approximately 60% of the seats on each departure are available for reservations, while the remaining 40% are allocated to walk-up passengers on a first-come-first-serve basis. Unfortunately, wait times can be lengthy. If you have a non-reservable ticket, your entire group must be prepared to wait in line for 1-3 departures of the 8X service before seats become available.

Can I drive to Lake Louise Lakeshore and use a Reservable Super Pass ticket to access Moraine Lake?

No, access to the Parks Canada Connector Shuttle to Moraine Lake is only granted to riders who have used the 8X service from Banff to Lake Louise. Refunds will not be issued to those who purchase tickets and attempt to use them at Lake Louise Lakeshore without having taken the 8X service from Banff.

Will I be able to book a Reservable Super Pass for the Route 10 service, Banff – Moraine Lake Express?

Yes, Reservable Super Pass tickets will be available to book for Route 10. These will include the Parks Canada Lake Connector Shuttle from Moraine Lake to Lake Louise (return). Further details will be available in early September.

Cancel/Modify/No-Show/Fees Questions

Can I modify my booking?

Yes, you can modify your booking to change the date and time of travel up until 2 hours before your departure. Click here to make changes. Please note that modifications are subject to availability, especially during the busy summer season (May-Oct). Departures are often sold out, so modifications may not always be possible.

Can I cancel my ticket?

Yes, you have the option to cancel your reservation before your scheduled departure date and time. However, there are specific conditions:

Up to 48 hours ahead of your departure time, a 25% cancellation fee will be applied. Please contact us at info@roamtransit.com with your transaction number, specifying the tickets you wish to cancel, and confirming your acceptance of the 25% cancellation fee. We will promptly proceed with processing your refund. It’s important to note that the reservation fee is non-refundable.

If cancellation request occurs within 48 hours of departure, no refund will be issued.

Why is there a booking fee?

The reservation fee is charged per transaction at a rate of $3.00. This fee is non-refundable and contributes to covering the operating costs of the Reservation Service.

What if I miss my departure time (“No-Show”)?

If you fail to arrive at the designated stop location 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time, you will be considered a “No-Show.” Your reservation will be canceled, and your spot(s) will be allocated to other guests. While you can still use your ticket on the reserved date, you will now need to join the non-reservation queue for the next available walk-up seat.

I have a reservation but I would like to take the bus at another departure time, is this possible?

You are only guaranteed a seat on the bus you have a reservation for, provided your entire group is at the designated stop no later than 20 minutes before your departure time. If you would like to take another 8X departure, you will need to join the back of the walk-up line when your entire group is present. Please keep in mind that wait times can be lengthy, and you should be prepared to wait 1-3 departures before a walk-up seat(s) becomes available. You can use your ticket for any other departure on the same day as your reservation at no extra cost. We recommend taking the bus you have a reservation for.
