Fare Free Frequently Asked Questions

How does fare free work?

Lake Louise residents receive a Token Transit pass that must be presented via the Token Transit app when boarding a Roam bus. Each resident is issued their Token Transit pass, which is non-transferable and cannot be shared.

The Token Transit pass is an app-based pass, used for Roam Transit fares. When boarding, users simply show their activated pass to ride fare-free on the Lake Louise Local Route 11 service.

The Lake Louise Resident Token Transit pass is valid from May 13 to October 12, 2026.

How do I apply?

Applicants must present documentation showing proof of residency with a physical Lake Louise address. Examples of accepted documents are listed below.

How can I get my child their fare free Token Transit pass?

Fare free applicants have the choice to “Add another family member” upon their own application for a fare free pass. Guardians can use this to add children (Youth 13-18) to the program and only have to supply their name, age group and relationship to the applicant. Children 12 and under are free to travel on Roam and do not require a Resident Pass.

What if I do not have access to a smartphone?

If you do not have access to a smartphone and would still like to participate in the Lake Louise Resident Program, please submit your application form by email to llrp@roamtransit.com and indicate that you are requesting a smartcard.

What if my name is not on any of the documents needed for proof of residency?

If your partner is the primary housing agreement or bill holder, they can apply for your fare free pass for you along with their application. Similar to how guardians can apply for a child’s fare free pass, your partner will have the choice to “Add another family member” upon their own application.

Why isn’t Route 8X considered “local”?
