Banff Local Route 1 Detour – Expect Delays

Give your car a vacation and leave the driving to us on Canada Day! All routes will be running on July 1, however, please be aware that there will be modifications to stops due to the Canada Day parade road closures in Banff and Canmore. We’ll do our best to get you where you need to go to celebrate but with the road closures and high passenger volumes, please anticipate delays.
What you need to know if you’re using Roam in Canmore on July 1
– Canmore local buses will be on the Saturday service schedule.
– Starting on June 29, you can ride Canmore local buses for free! Roam in Canmore for free on Canada Day!
– From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. the closest stop to downtown Canmore is Elevation Place South (if you’re coming from Cougar Creek) and Rundle Crescent (if you’re coming from Three Sisters). The roads are closed beyond these stops.
– Stops from the Canmore Collegiate High School to Canmore Shopping Area to the Bow River bridge will be closed to service during the road closure.
What you need to know if you’re using Roam for Banff-Canmore Regional on July 1
– Banff-Canmore Regional route will be on the Summer Weekend service schedule.
– From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., passengers will be picked up and dropped off at Elevation Place South in Canmore. This is the closest to downtown Canmore we can get due to road closures for the Canada Day parade in Canmore.
– From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the Banff Train Station will be the only stop where Route 3 picks up and drops off passengers in the town of Banff. Route 3 will not be picking up and dropping off at any other Banff stops during this time because of the Canada Day parade on Banff Avenue.
– The last departure from Banff is at 10 p.m. and the last departure from the downtown 9th Street stop in Canmore is at 10:24 p.m.
What you need to know if you’re using Roam in Banff on July 1
Route 1 (Sulphur): From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Route 1 will detour down Muskrat Street. Look for temporary stops on Muskrat and Caribou for both travel directions – down from the Banff Fire Hall intersection on Caribou Street. The Moose Street stops for heading up to the Tunnel Mountain Campground is slightly adjusted, so it’s across the street from the current Moose Street stop, heading down from the campground.
Route 2 (Tunnel): There will be an extra trip from Tunnel Mountain Village I Powerline at 10:45 a.m. and from Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground at 10:52 a.m. so that campers can make it to the parade on Roam! From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Route 2 will detour down Muskrat Street. Look for temporary stops on Muskrat and Caribou for both travel directions – down from the Banff Fire Hall intersection on Caribou Street. Route 4 (Cave & Basin): From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Route 4 will not be running.
Route 6 (Lake Minnewanka): From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Banff Train Station will be the only stop where Route 6 picks up and drops off passengers in the town of Banff.
NEW! Express Bus to Minnewanka Park & Ride: Leave your car at the Minnewanka Park & Ride and catch a free Roam bus every 15 minutes into town. The free trips from Minnewanka Park & Ride include an Express Bus running in addition to the regular Route 6 buses. The Express Bus is complimentary the entire time it’s running – departs Banff on the 15 and 45. First departure is at 10:15 a.m. and the last departure is at 5:15 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Express Bus will pick up and drop off from the Banff Train Station only.
Park & Ride, Continued: All buses are free coming from the Minnewanka Park & Ride. But only the Express Bus to the Park & Ride is free. (The other Route 6 buses that go by the Minnewanka Park & Ride on the way to the lake are full fare.)
All routes: Stops along Banff Avenue will be closed during the parade. Stops and schedules resume at 1 p.m.
What you need to know if you’re using On-It Transit on July 1
Coming to Banff or Canmore from Calgary for Canada Day? Take On-It Transit on Saturday, July 30-Monday, July 2. You can buy your tickets to ride now! From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., On-it arrivals and departures will occur at the Banff Train Station On-it stop due to the parade road closures.
